Backstreet Boys TV Special, Home Video Due
Date: May 18, 2001
Source: Billboard
Submitted by: Brenna
Performances, interviews, and behind-the-scenes footage will make up he Backstreet Boys' first network television special, airing May 30 on CBS. "Backstreet Boys: Larger Than Life" will feature the group performing such hits as "I Want It That Way" and "Shape of My Heart," taped live at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
The one-hour show will also include a look at the group's whirlwind Around the World in 100 Hours promotional tour, which last November took members A.J. McLean, Brian Littrell, Howie Dorough, Kevin Richardson, and Nick Carter to Stockholm, Tokyo, Sydney, Capetown, Rio de Janeiro, and New York to promote their latest Jive album, "Black & Blue."
On July 10, Jive will release a 90-minute documentary of the trek, titled "Around the World," on VHS and DVD. Among the footage is coverage of the media events at each stop, as well as shots of group members at the controls of their chartered 757 jet. Also included is an exclusive video of "Shape of My Heart" that combines live performances taped around the world into one clip.
The Backstreet Boys will kick off a North American arena tour June 8 in Orlando, and stay on the road until Aug. 31 in Dallas. Tonight (May 16), the group plays Estadio National in Panama City, and will play Saturday and Sunday in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Krystal is supporting on all three of those stops, as well as the North American tour, which will also boast Shaggy as an opening act.
