8 years ago on May 8, 1993 the Boys performed their first big concert at Sea World, Orlando to a crowd of more than 3,000 teenagers. Much to the amazement of the group, the audience went wild.

World Music Awards Hosts Announced

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Sisqo and Carmen Electra will be the hosts of the 2001 World Music Awards in Monte Carlo.

The awards show will be taped on May 2 and will air on May 28 on ABC (9 p.m. EDT).

Shaggy, Nelly, Enya, Nelly Furtado, Christina Aguilera, Rod Stewart, the Backstreet Boys and Ricky Martin are among those scheduled to perform.

Stewart will receive an award for lifetime achievement.

All proceeds from ticket sales to the show's taping will be donated to the Princess Grace Hospital and the Monaco Aide and Presence Foundation.

The next day the Boys had to do a photo shoot for TV Guide. They are actually going to have six different covers featuring the Backstreet Boys. One cover will be a group photo and the other five will be individual shots of each of the five Boys.

Backstreet Boys fear for fainting fans

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (Reuters) - The Backstreet Boys (news - web sites), in Brazil for two concerts this week, have urged their young fans to take care of themselves so they did not faint and miss the excitement.

Dozens of fans have been camping outside the Rio and Sao Paulo show venues for days to ensure they get a front-row view of their idols. While grateful for the support, the boy band's members said Tuesday they sometimes worried about their fans.

``It's very flattering,'' band member A.J. McLean said at a news conference. ``But at the same time it's a little bit scary that they don't eat, don't drink water and by the fourth or fifth song they will pass out and miss the show.''

The Backstreet Boys will play Rio on May 3 and Sao Paulo on May 5 as part of a South American concert trek.

Marc Anthony, Aaron Carter & More To Perform At Lupus 2001 (5/4/01, 6 p.m. ET) -- Marc Anthony, Lionel Richie, Aaron Carter, Backstreet Boys (news - web sites)

Howie Dorough, A.J. McLean, and Nick Carter; Jon Secada, Deborah Gibson, Carole King, country singer John Sines Jr., Barry Williams (Brady Bunch), Pollyanna Dorough (Howie's sister), and Chelsea Herring (Howie's niece) are among the artists confirmed to perform at Lupus 2001, a charity fundraiser to benefit the Dorough Lupus Foundation, according to a spokesperson for the organization. The concert will be held on June 1 at the Hard Rock Live at Universal Studio's CityWalk in Orlando, Florida. The following day (June 2), a dinner, silent auction, a private show with Shamu the killer whale, and private live concert with Howie Dorough and his band will take place at nearby Sea World. The auction will include items donated by celebrities, recording stars, athletes, and fashion designers.

Artists invited to perform at Lupus 2001 who were still unconfirmed as of press time include country star Martina McBride, Creed, Tyrese, R. Kelly, "Weird Al" Yankovic, and comedian Jeff Foxworthy, among others.

The Dorough Lupus Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Howie Dorough and his family shortly after his sister died of the disease in 1998. The foundation raises money for Lupus research, education, and financial assistance for individuals living with Lupus who cannot afford treatment. Tickets for the June 1 concert are $175 and tickets for the June 2 dinner and auction are $150. If you wish to attend both events, combination tickets are discounted to $300. Tickets for Lupus 2001 will be made available online through Ticketmaster.
